Evaluating interventions to reduce child marriage in India

Background This paper estimates the costs and benefits of investing in education interventions specific child marriage programs to reduce India. Child India remains highly prevalent despite considerable progress last decade or more, associated, particular, with a decline poverty. The economic consequences COVID 19 pandemic are likely reverse these gains, meaning that evaluated this assume even greater importance. Methods A literature search identify impact on reduction for India, other low middle income countries was conducted. effectiveness were modelled reducing school dropout rates increasing secondary completions estimated. ratio intervention estimated gave benefit-cost ratio. Results resulted an average 16.8. projected decrease rate girls aged 15–17 years from 16.4% 2020 by 7.5 percentage points 2050, targeting increased attendance being larger factor. By 2030, proportion completing is increase 13 productivity have 16.4%. Conclusions results indicate substantial social gains rates, girls, address some broader cultural disadvantages they face has significant implications not only their health, but also quality available opportunities possibility attaining Sustainable Development Goal 5.
